Rescue Me ID: 14-04-17-00458Bratwurst (male)

Miniature Pinscher    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Obese

Bratwurst is a very sweet, loyal and loving, ten-year-old, 28-pound, male, Min Pin looking for a loving guardian. Poor Bratwurst was dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control at 36 pounds of pudgy sickness. The poor guy was ill with Cushings disease and almost died if it were not for the loving intervention of his foster mom, vet and the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. Bratwurst is great with other dogs and children. Because of his still pudgy, but shrinking bulk, Bratwurst is typically incapable of getting on furniture. He's mostly housebroken but has the occasional accident if he doesn't get in a minimum of four outings ... (Read More)a day. Bratwurst has a great disposition; he warms up to new people and dogs quickly. His nub of a tail is always happily wagging. He doesn't know commands but will do just about anything for a piece of turkey, including dancing on his hind legs. He even does well in a room full of dogs at doggy daycare. In the home, Bratwurst is relaxed and enjoys his naps. Lots of walks and a healthy diet will help him recover from his illness. He also takes medicine daily for his Cushings disease; he's easy to medicate because he takes the drugs like they are a treat! Bratwurst is otherwise healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, fecal and heartworm-tested and micro-chipped. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact his foster mom Virginia at virginny@tradertodd.com or 773-837-1122. His adoption fee of $200 benefits the rescued dogs of Friends of Chicago Animal Care & Control. He is being fostered in Chicago. (Less)

Sadly that friend was evicted from his apartment and Gnarles has been living in a cage in a boarding facility for a year and a half. Gnarles has had select dog friends, but ideally, he's looking for a home as the one and only animal in the home. He does not do well with cats and goats, but he is not at all aggressive with people. He does not need a yard, so he would do fine in an apartment or condo. He's quietly ... (Read More)crate-trained and perfectly housebroken. He is a couch potato who enjoys lounging all day; although he does rise to the occasion when taken on a walk, run or bike ride. He goes five miles with ease. Gnarles is healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and heartworm-tested. He did have an allergic reaction as you can tell from his hair loss, but his fur is now growing back. To meet and possibly adopt Gnarles please contact Stefan at sbrown14@kentlaw.iit.edu or 708-846-5923. His adoption fee of $100 benefits rescued pets. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-11-00261Thunder (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Thunder is a mellow and sweet, six-year-old, 60-pound, male, glossy black and white Lab/Pit-mix looking for a loving guardian. Thunder was rescued from the pound in Gary, Indiana. He had a bump on his head, and an injury to one of his rear legs. It's guessed that he had been hit by a car. Thunder can't see that well; he has 15% vision in one eye and 6% vision in the other. Since he's almost blind, it's not surprising that he is easily startled by someone sneaking up on him. But amazingly, he still loves to play fetch. He will listen for the ball to bounce and go in that direction. He's also quite the lap dog and loves to cuddle. Thunder ... (Read More)is living in a foster home where he has proven great with dogs of all sizes as well as cats. He is not crazy about overly playful dogs. But, he is great with a dominant male German Shepherd that typically does not like other males, but he accepts Thunder into his pack. Because of his vision problems, Thunder sometimes bumps into other dogs or lands on them if he jumps down off of a bed or couch. Most dogs are understanding of his clumsiness, but some dogs may not be. He is great with people of all ages including children, however toys on the floor are confusing to him as he memorizes his environment so he can get around. When he goes to a new foster home, he immediately tries to figure out the path to the door and has been housebroken wherever he goes when taken out regularly. He is also crate-trained. He is great on leash, at the vet and in the car. He is full of tail wags and kisses for the people he loves. He knows the command sit and does so automatically when he smells a treat or hears the crinkle of a treat bag. He is food-motivated and takes treats gently from your fingers. He's looking for a quiet home where someone can keep him on a solid routine. Thunder is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on preventative. And, even though the rescue group spent over $3,000 on his vet care '| his adoption fee is only $200. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact Melia at melia88@comcast.net or 708-224-1900. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Capone is a handsome, affectionate, playful, active and energetic, two-year-old, 65-pound, brindle and white, male American Bulldog/German Shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Capone has such great ears that his nickname is Bat Dog. The poor guy got off to a very rough start to his life; he and his littermates almost succumbed to Parvo. The vet chose to treat the sick puppies with the antibiotic Baytril which helped Capone fight infection, but damaged his hips. So, by the age of 18 months, he had surgery on both hips. You'd hardly know it now because he's still a happy, playful guy who gets the zoomies '| runs, jumps and plays! ... (Read More)Capone is living in a foster home where he is perfecting his housebreaking. He's 90% there! He already knows the commands sit and down and walks nicely on leash. He's also great in the car. He is a very loyal and loving dog who is looking for an experienced dog-lover who can deal with a fearful and protective dog. Capone does best with someone who will work with him and give him structure. Capone can be a bit dog selective. So, he'd be great as the only dog in your world, or he could live with another dog, but it's got to be the right dog.     Semi-Feral, Cat-Loving Feline Needs a Loving Guardian... Petra is a gorgeous, three-year-old, female brown and white classic tabby with golden eyes looking for a loving guardian. Petra was being fed outside and she was very consistent about showing up at the same place and same time every day. In fact, she would meow persistently. A friend told me about this beautiful and special cat. I went to meet her and took her home (in a trap). When I brought her in to get spayed, I found that she had trapped a couple times before ... so she had already been spayed and micro-chipped. So, I got her vaccines up-dated, and had her re-checked for viruses, ... (Read More)and treated for fleas and worms. Petra doesn't have much use for humans. She likes when they keep her well-fed ... she loves her canned food. And she's very neat and tidy and uses her litter box perfectly. She does enjoy the company of other cats and hangs out with them happily in my house ... until I come in the room. And, then she goes back to her cat tree to hide. It's a bit insulting, but I think a patient cat-loving person can bring her around to appreciating humans a bit more. Petra is extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines, micro-chipped, virus-tested negative and treated with revolution for fleas and worms.     Morgon is a handsome, affectionate, muscular and energetic, four-year-old, 65-pound, male pit bull terrier looking for a loving guardian. Sadly, Morgon was found tied to a tree during the Chicago blizzard of February 2011. He landed in a cage at Chicago Animal Care & Control which at least was warmer. Morgon needs a little time to warm up to new people. Luckily he is very food-motivated, so earning his trust is as easy as offering him a treat. He is a happy, ... (Read More)energetic, loving dog who wants nothing more than to be someone's loyal and loved companion. Morgon is an inspiration and an example of what consistency and love can do for a dog. Morgon loves to play ball and tug. He does get over-stimulated when excited, so he is looking for a calm dog-experienced guardian who will keep Morgon working; he is happiest when he has a job to do. Morgon is no couch potato; he's more of a running buddy for an active outdoorsy person. Morgon is great in the car, and very attentive to his people. He's strong on leash, so he needs an equally strong leader to guide him. He knows the commands sit and down and takes treats nicely from your fingers. He is also fantastic at catching a treat mid-air. Morgon is good with select dogs; his current best friend and playmate is a female pit bull terrier. To meet and possibly adopt Morgon, please contact K94Keeps rescue at info@k94keeps.org or 312-221-9285. Morgon is housebroken, crate-trained, very healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued dogs of K9 4 Keeps Rescue. (Less)

Charlie is a loyal, sweet, affectionate and pudgy, eleven-year-old, 19-pound, male, orange tabby looking for a loving guardian. Charlie's elderly human died and he was taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He has since been fostered in the home of a wonderful foster family. He had been loved and over-indulged by his former human to the point of obesity. Charlie still has his playful moments and enjoys batting a toy around and greeting all guests to his home. He is friendly and likes to snuggle on the couch. Charlie gets along with most cats, but dogs tend to frighten him (unless they are really gentle and low-key). Charlie is looking for ...     Benjamin is a gorgeous, agile, incredibly sweet, playful, snugly and loving, three-year-old, 15-pound, male, amber-eyed orange tabby cat looking for a loving guardian. He has a squeaky happy purr and adores being pet and loved. He gets along beautifully with other cats ... and he is fine with gentle-natured dogs who don't chase him. He has perfect litter box habits and uses his scratching post like a good boy. Benjamin was adopted from Chicago Animal Care and Control as a tiny kitten. He was returned three years later when his human moved out of state. Upon his return it was discovered that he has a severe heart murmur (grade four out of ... At this point, he is completely asymptomatic and leads a normal and happy cat life. He is on inexpensive medication twice daily to keep him healthy for as long as possible. Luckily he's the easiest cat I've ever had to medicate ... I give him his pill wrapped in a chicken pill pocket and he takes it happily. It doesn't get any easier than that! And, his medication only costs $2.00 a month. Benjamin is otherwise a healthy, happy boy. He is neutered, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and virus-tested. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact Sheri at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. His adoption fee of $95 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control.
