Rescue Me ID: 16-04-28-00447Shane (male)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Cancer

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] Shane is a hunk of a well-trained, extremely sweet, energetic yet gentle, four-year-old, 85-pound, male Am Staff/Hound-mix looking for a temporary or permanent guardian as he goes through chemo. Shane is a lovely boy who adores people, is great in the home, house-trained and has had extensive training. He loves car rides and he's so well-behaved, he doesn't even need to be crated in the home. Shane is an energetic boy who loves to play fetch in a fenced-in yard, but then settles down nicely to hang out and chew his bully sticks inside. He does best with people, and has never been socialized with other ... (Read More)animals. Shane is also a couch potato who enjoys snuggling with the people he loves. Shane has been with Almost Home for two years, moving back and forth to a kennel because his foster mom lives half the year in Arizona. Shane has recently been diagnosed with malignant mast cell tumors. He is on low dose chemo pills three times a week and the vet suggests that he may live two or more years with this treatment. So he basically needs to be fostered or adopted by someone while he enjoys the rest of his life. He has a foster mom who adores him, yet she lives part of the year in Itasca and the other part in Arizona. So, he's been kenneled half the year which is not good for his stress levels. His foster mom is returning to Arizona on May 2nd so Shane needs immediate foster so he doesn't need to be sent back to the kennel. Because he's a big strong guy, he's best with older kids and adults. He knows the commands sit, down, paw and other paw. Shane's adoption fee of $295 helps benefit the Almost Home Foundation, but he is also available for temporary or permanent foster care. Below are the links for adopting or fostering him. http://almosthomefoundation.org/adopt/adoption-application/ http://almosthomefoundation.org/foster/foster-a-dog/ Requirements: 'ۢ Be at least 21 years of age 'ۢ Have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household 'ۢ Have approval from owner of residence (written in lease) 'ۢ Have a valid ID with current address 'ۢ Be approved as a suitable foster home by Almost Home Foundation 'ۢ live in the Greater Chicago Land area To ask further questions about Shane, please e-mail dogs@almosthomefoundation.org or call Debbie at 847-630-3913. Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Cancer

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] Daisy is a happy, active and extremely friendly, eight-year-old, 40-pound, female Beagle / Basset Hound-mix. This girl loves to go on walks and car rides, knows the command sit, is housebroken when kept on schedule, and crate-trained. She gets along with other dogs and people of all ages. She's active and fun; Daisy loves to chase a ball, but she won't always retrieve. Feena is a sweet, strong and shy, eight-year-old, 65-pound female purebred fawn and white Boxer with a cropped tail and natural ears. She's nervous at first when she meets new people - especially men. But, she warms up quickly especially with ... (Read More)women and gives tons and tons of slobbery kisses. Feena loves her walks and car rides, and gets along with other dogs after an introductory walk around the block together. Feena is perfectly housebroken and crate-trained. These girls have lived their entire lives together and love each other even though they are quite the odd couple. When you feed them, they switch bowls in the middle and complete each other's meal '| it's really cute. When Feena was younger, she hurt her right rear knee. She uses that leg just fine but it has a lot of scar tissue, so she limps and her muscle is a little atrophied. She doesn't need any additional treatment at this point beyond glucosamine chondroitin supplements. Daisy was adopted as a puppy from a local shelter, but her family never spayed her. So, she will have that surgery very soon along with breast cancer surgery. Daisy and Feena were dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family when they could no longer keep them. They were taken in by Famous Fido Rescue. I met them during a photo shoot at the shelter and brought them home as my fosters, so I have gotten to know and love these girls. They need a home of their own, preferably together. To meet and possibly foster/adopt Daisy and Feena, please contact Sheri directly at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891.     Kate and Che, are a bonded pair of very shy tabby cats looking for a loving guardian. Found living together in a barn, Kate and Che were rescued and have adapted beautifully and appreciatively to the warmth and relaxation of indoor condo life. They are the best of friends often found snuggling or nesting together in their foster home. While they are not necessarily snuggly with humans, they are looking for someone who will enjoy their company without wanting huggable companion felines. Che is a five-year-old hunk of a long, sleek, male tabby with enormous soulful eyes and a big presence who loves to lounge on the sofa or hang out on the ... (Read More)cat tree. He has a super-mellow nature, and avoids confrontation from other cats. He's really just a big teddy bear that wants nothing more than a peaceful life. He loves food; whenever he hears a can being opened in the morning and evening, he pads to the kitchen and hangs out patiently by the door to make sure he's not forgotten. Kate is a 11-year-old petite female tabby with an endearing pixie face and the cutest white socks. Kate is coming out of her shell more each day and likes to explore her surroundings. She enjoys hanging out on the sofa grooming Che; she's a cougar! I understand from their foster mom that when an annoying photographer is not around, they are completely relaxed and happy. Here is a video showing how relaxed and happy they are in their foster home: https://youtu.be/Y8SSZpcP0wg These two are well-mannered in the home, use their litter box and scratching posts like good kitties. They get along with other felines in the home. And, while they are not currently living with dogs, they'd probably be fine with a dog that didn't chase them. Kate and Che are not at all aggressive with people, or with other cats. When nervous, they retreat or hide. They are neutered/spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and virus-tested. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Petra is a gorgeous, four-year-old, female brown and white classic tabby with golden eyes looking for a loving guardian. Petra was being fed outside and she was very consistent about showing up at the same place and same time every day. My friend told me about what he thought was a pregnant cat. Turned out she is just well-fed! I went to meet her and took her home (in a trap). When I brought her in to get spayed, I found that she had trapped a couple times before ... so she had already been spayed and micro-chipped. So, I got her vaccines up-dated, and had her re-checked for viruses, and treated for fleas and worms. Petra doesn't have ... (Read More)much use for humans. She likes when they keep her well-fed ... she loves her canned food. And she's very neat and tidy and uses her litter box perfectly. It's a bit insulting, but I think a patient cat-loving person can bring her around to appreciating humans a bit more. Why would someone take in a semi-feral cat? She'll live longer in the great indoors, she is a good friend to my other cats, and she's a no-bother kind of girl ... clean and neat.
